Many people in the Northampton area will have heard
the name "Hanzlik". My father Josef, was stationed with the Czechoslovak Army
close to Corby in Northamptonshire, and after the war, started his Locksmith business in
Kettering, nearby. The family moved to Northampton in the late 50s and he had a
small shop in the centre of Northampton until his retirement in 1980.Sadly he died a couple of years later, and I took the decision to carry on and keep the
Hanzlik name synonymous with the Locksmithing profession.
I now have a healthy business, based at my premises in Lutterworth Road, Abington,
Northampton, where apart from a retail shop specialising in all aspects of physical
security, lock sales and key cutting, a fully equipped workshop for specialist repair and
modification of locks is also a major part of the business.
Along with my colleague, Graham, we can also offer a fully comprehensive Locksmith
service at our customers own premises; Lock fitting and replacements, opening locked
doors, cabinets etc. and a full security survey in accordance with Insurance Company
specifications.
This Security Survey is a free service for anyone within a 5 mile radius of our
premises. Outside this area, we make a nominal Survey fee, which is then deducted from the
invoice charge when the work had been completed.
| Tied in with my Locksmith work, I have a strong interest in Magic,
particularly the life and work of Harry Houdini, the famous Escapologist. I now have what
I believe to be the most complete collection of books about Houdini, (over 150 titles),
and I lecture on the subject to Magical Societies and local organisations. I am a past
President of Northamptonshire Magicians Club and an associate member of The Inner
Magic Circle. |

My Magic Circle connections have enabled me to help create a permanent
exhibit on Houdini at the Centre for the Magic Arts, in Euston, London, the home of The
Magic circle. I was also very honoured to be invited to sit at the table for the 1999
Official Houdini Séance which was held in London for the first time, on October 31st,
the anniversary of Houdinis death. |

It is a joy to be able to mix my business with my interest in Houdini. I
am sure that if Houdini was around today he would be totally enthralled with the vast
selection of locks that are available, each one offering him a different challenge.
